Epsom Ladies 1XI play Woking Away – 19.10.13

AndrewM Ladies 1st XI

This was a must win for Epsom Ladies 1s who were playing bottom of the table with only 2 points difference. We knew it was going to be a good game when Paula Winsor heard her 3 favourite songs on the radio and we warmed up in torrential rain! Two minutes in and a great drive down the right from Becci Carpenter set up Paula Winsor for a 1v1 on the keeper – 1-0. Quick turnovers against the run of play saw Woking go 2-1 up, but never ones to let our heads drop a hard fought 1st half and a great goal by Penny Woods meant we went into the break at 2-2.

There were no sweets at half time which was disappointing but made way for an inspirational team talk and we stamped our authority on the game in the 2nd half, with some great possession and patterns of play. Two fantastic assists by Paula Winsor, set April King up brilliantly on the far post to put us 4-2 up. Then in the closing minutes Paula Winsor finally got sick of setting others up and took one for herself!

A great team performance and final result of 5-2 meant we finally cracked playing Woking away and gave us our 1st win of the season. Congratulations to April King who was voted MOM.

Epsom Ladies 1XI play Maidenhead at Epsom College this weekend (11.30am pushback).
