On a sunny October morning Epsom ladies 1s took to the home turf of Epsom College to face Southgate.
Following a rousing team huddle the girls started the first 10 with a bang! The next 10 however were less explosive and following some questionable short corner decisions, the only bangs were those of our own backboard, twice, to put Epsom 2-0 down at half time. After a stern talking to at half time Epsom started the 2nd half strongly with some good linking play from defence through midfield and finally to Woodsie (Penny Woods) at top d who slotted the ball past the keeper with ease to take the score to 2-1. This, bringing the encouragement that was needed, saw some great attacking play culminating in a beautifully weighted ball from Becci Carpenter ,finding April King on the touch line who sent the ball across the face of the goal in spectacular diving fashion to Paula Winsor on the far post who levelled the score line at 2-2 with 10 minutes to go. Despite battling hard right to the last minute, and a full time short corner, Epsom weren’t able to find the goal again leaving the final score 2-2. A great effort with some really encouraging passages of play leave Epsom ready and hungry for the 3 points away to Woking next week!
