Masters Hockey at Epsom HC – Cups, leagues and more!

Ali_M Main blog, Vets

Here at Epsom Hockey Club we’re proud to be able to offer hockey to many age groups and abilities with participants ranging from U8s to O60s. Our Masters teams have tasted success at national level, most recently our LO35s were crowned champions just last season in the England Hockey Masters Cup competition (Tier 3).

The road to Lee Valley continues this season with three teams still competing at the business end of the competition. Our MO40s Embers team are away at Polo Farm on 01 March to play Canterbury HC for a place in their Tier 1 final. Our LO35s overcame Canterbury on their route to the semi-final of Tier 1 this year where they meet Clifton Robinsons HC (away), another tough opposition. Our MO50s are at home on 08 March as they welcome Sevenoaks HC in their quarter-final (Tier 2). Let’s get to Old Schools Lane and cheer them on!

Results 1st & 8th March 2020

Our masters teams regularly enter the England Hockey Cup competition, but there are more opportunities throughout the season and over the summer, both at club and regional level. The Southern Counties Hockey Association run club cups and leagues; the ladies starting at O35s, men at O40s and both running up to O60s age groups – masters hockey is thriving in the south and Epsom Hockey Club are a part of it!

In addition to this the South teams are a great way to meet up with others from around the region and play a high level of hockey against other teams from across the country. The ladies have two trials sessions this year (in March) and the men begin their trials in April with regional tournaments scheduled in May/June.

South Regional masters teams (LO50s, MO40s, LO45s) – including Epsom players:
Bex Harris, Sarah White, James Harris, Steve Turnbull & Penny Woods

For further information on trials and selection for south regional squads get in touch with Club captains Chalky or Ali or head to the South Hockey website – https://www.southhockey.org.uk/index.php/masters

It’s great to see our masters members helping and inspiring others on the pitch and throughout the Club. With more players we can develop the opportunities to create additional teams and continue playing the sport we all love, for longer!

All the best to our Cup teams and members going for regional trials this season.
