Men’s 1s: lose out to Tulse Hill

jimmy_m Match reports, Men 1st XI

Epsom: 2 (Midmer 2)

Tulse Hill and Dulwich: 4

Tulse Hill and Dulwich proved too strong for Epsom in their final pre-season friendly at Therfield School on Saturday. Epsom started brightly with James Midmer finishing off an early counter-attack, but Tulse Hill soon equalised when skilful centre-midfielder Martyn White picked his way through and fired home. Tulse Hill started to dictate play as the half wore on and Epsom had to hold out resiliently to keep it 1-1 at half time. Tulse Hill’s strong midfield continued to create chance after the break and the visitors scored twice in quick succession to make it 3-1. Epsom rallied mid-way through the second half; James Midmer deflected home a Steve Turnbull cross for 3-2, and had a good chance for an equaliser, but this would have been harsh on Tulse Hill given the general run of play. The visitors deservedly sealed the game with a late short-corner goal making it 4-2. Epsom worked hard throughout and it was no shame to lose to a very decent side who are regular fixtures at the top end of South Prem 2. Epsom will hope to be sharper for the experience in their first league game away to Wimborne Wayfarers next Saturday.
