Epsom: 5 (W.Hunt, Jo.Harris, Barker, Midmer 2)
Sevenoaks 2s: 3
Epsom stepped up their South Prem 2 East campaign with a 5-3 win in the driving rain against Sevenoaks 2s. Epsom had been poor the previous week at Eastbourne, but they started strongly here and Will Hunt gave them an early lead with a sharp reverse stick finish. Sevenoaks came back with a strong 10 minute spell, equalising from a slick short corner, but Epsom were playing well, co-ordinated by Alex Bond, and created several chances as the half wore on. Just before half-time Jack Marfleet popped up on the right baseline and some great skills, combined with an excellent advantage by the umpires, saw him find Josh Harris who lifted home his first ever 1st XI goal. 2-1 at halftime.
Epsom soon went 3-1 up in the second half as Adam Barker converted a slick short-corner routine. Sevenoaks now started to pile forward but Epsom stood strong at the back and another short-corner saw James Midmer pop up to make it 4-1. Epsom initially managed the game out well, but some indiscipline saw them reduced to 9 men and Sevenoaks immediately cut the deficit to 4-2 from another well-worked corner. The game was now wide open but Epsom held out brilliantly with 9 men; Barker working overtime up-front, and James Tuck making some crucial saves. Once back to 11 another short corner saw Midmer again finish a slick routine for 5-2. Sevenoaks threw everything forward in the closing stages and another slick short corner saw the visitors cut the deficit to 5-3 but there were no further goals and Epsom held out for a win off a much improved performance. They will be hoping to keep this level for next week’s trip to Old Bordernians, who sit alongside them in the table.
