Epsom: 1 (B.Hildrey)

Haslemere: 0

Epsom ground out a solid 1-0 win against Haslemere at a freezing cold Epsom College on Saturday. Epsom started strongly and scored what turned out to be the game’s only goal after 10 minutes when Ben Hildrey drilled home a neatly-worked short corner for 1-0. From this point Epsom sat tight behind the ball and looked to counterattack. Haslemere had far more possession but a strong Epsom defensive display limited clear-cut chances and the backline also defended a number of short corners well. As the game wore on Epsom forced a number of short-corners but they couldn’t get a second goal which would have made things more comfortable. In the closing stages Haslemere created their best chance but Ed Burton-Brown made a strong save away to his left. It proved the game’s last real chance as Epsom played out time for a 1-0 win. They travel to league-leaders London Academicals next week and will hope to put in a strong performance.
