Mens 5’s continue to challenge leaders

AndrewM Mens 5th XI

Having had the previous game cancelled due to frost Epsom turned up for the re-arranged fixture hoping for better weather…to be greeted by a hurricane…and rain…the captainĀ bemoaning he had left his good coat at home…presumably along with his pipe, slippers and thermal undies;-)!! Despite this by the time the game started the sun had miraculously appeared…and it certainly brought a bright start from Epsom, with some nice passing between all parts of the team, deservedly Epsom took the lead, Dan slotting in from the P spot. It was somewhat against the run of play that the oppo equalised, apparently Matt Breese’s fault;-)…Epsom soon regained the lead through Man of the Match Chris White’s first goal of the game. With the opposition ringer becoming more influential Epsom, collectively, decided the oppo had not had enough of the ball, and kept on giving it back to the oppo…not fatal until yours truly decided he could pass to Smithy wide out on the left…and with laser accuracy passed straight to their centre forward who scored:-(!!
Following another inspirational half time talk from our skipper, of Churchillian level, Epsom despite a sluggish start to the second half soon re-asserted their superiority and re-took the lead from a Carlos tap in from a short corner shot…perhaps a planned routine?!!!? Despite the oppo’s efforts Epsom never looked in danger in the second half, and scored the decisive goal through Chris White a lead they were never to relinquish:-)!! A kind gesture from yours truly to allow the opposition to take their free hit from the correct spot allowed the oppo umpire to be influenced by the oppo and give a harsh yellow card to yours truly, but despite their lack of numbers the oppo could not even manage a shot on target in the second half:-)!
A harder win than it should have been, but fully deserved….a top of the table clash awaits next weekend:-)!!!
