Mustangs Back to Winning Ways

Following last weeks hard fought and disappointing defeat the Mustangs bounced back well in a tight game against Leatherhead 2nd XI.

A new system was tried and this took a bit of bedding in and there were some early positional mistakes that led to some problems that put our defence to the test from good breaks from Leatherhead. However, the Mustang midfield eventually took control and the pressure was applied to the Leatherhead defence with good runs from Dan, Craig and Liam in midfield and the pace and control of Adam, Chris and Alex up front. The pressure led to a brace from Dan Kerven. Chris Dendy came close to adding a third and Adam hit a post when it was easier to score! However, things were made a little uncertain when from nowhere Leatherhead pulled one back from their one and only short corner of the half!!

2 v 1 at half time and the team were urged to get a grip of the second half from the whistle and take any hope Leatherhead had away and start turning the attempts on goal into goals!

Mustangs took a grip of the second half by exerting lots of pressure on the opposition by closing them down quickly and were rewarded with their effort by a well taken short corner shot from Adam K which gave the team the cushion we deserved for all the effort. The game became a little stretched but the  Leatherhead attack were well controlled with Mark Hutton marshaling the defence. The game finished 3 v 1 to the Mustangs and a win that kept them 2nd in the league.

The new system had its faults as we lost width and went narrow when going forward but its a work in progress and to be continued against Aldershot at home next week 3.30pm Therfield.
