UPDATE – 14 October 2024
Vision
As a charity that promotes active lifestyles and community recreation for Epsom and Ewell residents, Epsom Sports Club caters to all ages and abilities and provides facilities for sports, recreation and other leisure activities. The clubhouse will open up new exterior and interior spaces, creating a shared space in the heart of the community for a wide range of activities, with aims to support new participants to become active, particularly those from inactive and under-represented groups.
What progress has been made?
After several false starts over the last few years, we are now making good progress on the development of a clubhouse at Old Schools Lane.
As a reminder, we received planning permission in December 2022 for a single storey clubhouse. It will be fully accessible and have four changing rooms, a clubroom for indoor activities, a kitchen and a bar for both participants and spectators.
Over the last year we have been working with a team of designers to produce a package of updated drawings and designs to enable us to go to tender again. The package will be completed this month and the plan is to go to tender in November. We hope to begin construction next Spring.
Fundraising
We are hugely grateful to everyone that has contributed to fundraising activities towards the clubhouse. Epsom Sports Club members have raised £552K so far which is a fantastic achievement.
We have applied for several grants, the most notable of which has been a £1M grant from Surrey County Council as part of the YourFundSurrey Large Community scheme. The YourFundSurrey team was particularly impressed by our plans for community usage of the clubhouse, and the inclusive nature of the sport and recreational activities that will be available at Old Schools Lane.
BUT……..and there is always a but!!..........we still have a way to go to be able to afford the likely cost of the clubhouse which will probably be around £2.5M. We will be applying for more grants when we have a firmer cost - probably by the end of this month – but we will need more help from club members.
We need your help with fundraising and sponsorship, whether it is organising events for the club or reaching out to local businesses. We have a small team currently looking at fundraising and sponsorship and more volunteers would be hugely appreciated. Also, if you can help with a personal donation that would be very welcome. Signing up to easyfundraising.org.uk is a simple way to help.
